The Saginaw Spirit notched their sixth victory in a row following a 4-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers Saturday night at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw. Spirit scoring was spread out amongst four different scorers, with Jordan Szwarz, Ivan Telegin, Vincent Trocheck and Josh Shalla each posting a goal in the effort. The Spirit lead the OHL Western Conference with 64 points and a record of 30-8-3-1.
The game got off to a slow start, with only a single goal in the first period. Spirit captain Jordan Szwarz notched his eighteenth of the season at 6:50 in the first from defenseman Brad Walch and winger Josh Shalla.
The action heated up after a scoreless second period, with Spirit center Ivan Telegin making it 2-0 with a goal from winger Anthony Camara and center Mathew Sisca at the 8:13 mark. Kitchener would get on the board moments later with a goal from center Andrew Crescensi at 11:56 from defensemen Julian Melchiori and Chad Lowry, moving the score to 2-1. The Spirit would quickly answer to the tune of two goals, the first from center Vincent Trocheck at 15:49 courtesy assists from wingers Brandon Saad and Garret Ross and the second an empty netter from Shalla at 19:28 courtesy an assist from Szwarz.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks backstopped the team with 19 saves on 20 shots, while Rangers goalie Brandon Maxwell notched 30 saves on 33 shots.
