SAGINAW, MI – The Saginaw Spirit announced Wednesday their promotional schedule ahead of the 2019-20 regular season.
23 of the Spirit’s 34 home games during the 2019-20 season include a Game Night Event or Theme. Returning for their 13th season, as the Spirit’s longest running theme nights, are Pink Out, First Responders Night, and Shocks and Saves.
In Partnership with Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, Pink Out night supports the St. Mary’s Breast Cancer Fund, helping to provide mammograms and ultrasounds for qualified under-insured or uninsured patients. This season, the Spirit host the Sudbury Wolves on Sat. Oct. 26. Pink out has raised nearly $150,000.00 since its inception.
First Responders Night honors the men and woman who a first on scene to an accident or emergency. Saginaw Police Officers and Saginaw Firefighters take part in a friendly charity game prior to the Saginaw Spirit hockey game on Sat. Nov. 23, when the Spirit host the Windsor Spitfires. First Responders Night has raised nearly $35,000.00 for the Great Lakes Burn Camp.
The 13th annual Shocks and Saves Game presented by the Pulse3 Foundation and Mobile Medical Response takes place on Sat. Feb. 1, 2020, with the Spirit hosting the Erie Otters. The Detroit Red Wings Alumni takes on local EMT’s and doctors in a charity game before the beginning of the Spirit game. Former Detroit Red Wing Jiri Fischer returns to tell the story of his near-death experience dealing with a cardiac arrest on the bench during a National Hockey League game. In addition to Fischer, NHL alumni that have played in the charity game include Darren McCarty, John Ogrodnick, Petr Klima, Larry Murphy, Sergei Samsonov, Kip Miller, Eddie Mio, Jimmy Carson, Brent Fedyk, and Wayne Presley. Shocks and Saves has raised more than $640,000.00 and placed numerous Automatic External Defibrillators in the Great Lakes Bay Region that are saving lives daily.
Returning for its ninth season is Hockey for the Homeless, in partnership with Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan. The Spirit will wear a specialty jersey, one of four in the regular season, to be auctioned off at the end of the game. Previous to the Spirit game on Sat. Mar. 14, 2020 vs. Sarnia, Rescue Ministries will have a fun broomball game taking place on the ice, where the winners will battle it out for bragging rights during intermission of the Spirit game. Hockey for the Homeless has raised over $300,000.00 for Mid-Michigan Rescue Ministries.
Also returning for its seventh season is Teddy Bear Toss Night in partnership with the Jayden Lamb Memorial Foundation, Military Appreciation Night sponsored by Bay City Elks Lodge 88 returns for a sixth season, Superhero Night presented by CAN Council is back for a fourth season, while Opioid Awareness Night and Love Shouldn’t Hurt Night presented by Bay Arena Women’s Shelter and Underground Railroad are back for their second seasons.
Eight games during the regular season feature a $6 discount ticket, with Sunday’s being Covenant Kids Days and all non-Friday, Saturday, or Sunday games being Student & Military Rush Tickets. $6 tickets on Sundays are for kids 12 and under. Student and Military must show proper identification to receive the discounted ticket price. These prices are for Upper Level tickets only.
Nine regular season games this year include entertainment in the Budweiser Red Room prior to the game. On Sept. 28, there will be a free and anonymous Medication Take Back event held in the Red Room prior to the Spirit vs. Greyhounds game on Opioid Awareness Night. On Frozen night, Nov. 9, characters from the Disney movie, Frozen, will be in the Red Room before the game. On Dec. 28 vs. Windsor, Paw Patrol characters will be in the Red Room beginning at 6:00 p.m. On Ted Lindsay Night, Jan. 4, 2020, the Ted Lindsay Trophy awarded to the National Hockey League’s most outstanding player, will be in the Red Room for fans to view and take photos with from 6:00-8:00pm. Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, will be the highlight of the first night of Ice Blast Weekend on Feb. 14. On Feb. 15, The Rust Bucket Band will perform in the Red Room to wrap up Ice Blast Weekend.
Each Sunday home game features a postgame skate with the players. These dates are Sept. 29, Oct. 27, and Jan. 5, 2020.
The Spirit will unveil their 2019 West Division Championship banner on Sat. Sept. 21, when they host their rival Flint Firebirds at 7:05 p.m. The Spirit have won 16 of the last 17 regular season games between the two teams, and hope to capture the Coors Light I-75 Trophy for the third year in a row.
