Spirit raise $77,000 on Hockey for the Homeless night

In their 11th annual Hockey for the Homeless night, the Saginaw Spirit raised over $77,000 for the Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan and the Samaritan Youth Shelter.
“It’s been more than gratifying to see the lives that are so positively touched between rescue ministries and Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation in the past 11 years,” said Spirit President Craig Goslin. “We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible and we look forward to building this partnership better than ever.”

The Spirit wore specialty Saturday night that were auctioned off after the game, with proceeds benefiting the shelter. Admission fees from the Rescue Ministries’ pregame broomball tournament, the Spirit of Hope Telethon, and numerous event sponsors all helped achieve the most successful Hockey for the Homeless night to date.
Since the first Hockey for the Homeless night, the Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan and the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation have raised more than $477,000 for homeless and at-risk youth.
“This is an amazing partnership that could only happen through the tremendous efforts of Saginaw Spirit staff and the passion of its leadership to better our community,” said Dan Streeter, CEO for the Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan. “The funds raised will help provide a safety net of care for at-risk homeless youth in the Great Lakes Bay area.”
The Samaritan Youth Shelter opened in February of 2021, and has provided assistance to dozens of young people in the Great Lakes Bay Region since then.
Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds saw 5,565 fans pass through the Dow Event Center’s doors, the highest attended game this season.
