Spirit prepare for 2023 U18 Priority Selection
Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit will take part in the U18 Priority Selection Wednesday, April 26th. All U18 players not currently on a CHL Member Team Protected List who were carded with an Ontario-based U18 AAA Hockey Club or an accredited Hockey Canada sport school within the OHF, HNO or HEO in the 2022-23 playing season are eligible for the U18 Priority Selection.
In the 2022 U18 Priority selection, the Spirit drafted Lincoln Moore 1st overall. The former Soo Jr. Greyhound saw 51 games of action between the regular season and playoffs in his rookie campaign. His first OHL goal came on November 6th in Oshawa in a 5-0 win. In his first season, Moore notched seven goals and four assists for 11 points.
Ian Phillips and Calem Mangone are the other two Spirit players acquired via the U18 Priority Selection. Phillips, Saginaw’s 3rd round U18 selection in 2020, has seen 94 regular season and 11 playoff games with the Spirit. In that span, the Midland, Ont. native has tallied 22 points (5G, 17A).
Calem Mangone was picked second overall in the 2021 U18 Priority Selection and immediately proved his worth. His 34-point rookie season was followed by 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points in 2022-2023. In 114 career OHL games, the right-handed winger has 81 points (31G, 50A). His totals are 5th-most among players selected in the U18 draft since its inception in 2017.
The Spirit hold the 14th, 34th, and 54th overall selections in the 2023 U18 Priority Selection.
