Spirit Alum Will Petschenig to speak at virtual luncheon for Children’s Grief Center of Great Lakes Bay Region

CGC Luncheon -- October 20th

Saginaw Spirit Alum Will Petschenig  will be a featured speaker at the 5th annual ‘Hearts for Hope’ Luncheon, this year held virtually, on Tuesday, October 20 from Noon-1:00 p.m.

Petschenig began his ‘A Heart Like Mine’ program while playing for the Spirit during the 2015-16 seaason. His partnership with the Children’s Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region was recognized by the Canadian Hockey League awarding Petschenig with the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy for Humanitarian of the Year.

The hulking defenseman lost his father Dan in 2013, and after set out to help children with their grief after losing a parent. Will invited his ‘Warriors’ to Saginaw Spirit games throughout the 2015-16 season, eating dinner with them before the game, giving them t-shirts, and signed memorabilia, Petschenig gave the kids an all-access experience they would never forget.

The Ottawa-born Petschenig played most of his OHL career in Oshawa, winning a Memorial Cup with the Generals in 2015. He is proud to be expanding his reach with ‘A Heart Like Mine’ to the Durham Region and has a documentary coming out on October 29.
