SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – On Wednesday night, the Saginaw Spirit (21-15-3-0) visited the Sault for a road contest against the high-powered Greyhounds (35-3-2-1). During the first period, newly-acquired forward Taylor Raddysh followed up a Greyhound shot and logged his first goal on his new squad. Both the Spirit and the Greyhounds matched goals in the middle frame with Cole Coskey receiving scoring honors for Saginaw. Raddysh added his 2nd goal of the game during the third period to wrap up a 3-1 victory for Sault Ste. Marie.

During the first period, Saginaw’s starting goaltender Cameron :Lamour, stood tall to start his 9th appearance of the season with double-digit saves (10). Towards the end of the frame, Damien Giroux recorded a takeaway and raced down the ice on a breakaway. Giroux attempted a top left shot, but the Greyhounds’ netminder flashed the leather for a glove save. With 1:13left in the period, Taylor Raddysh (Tampa Bay Lightning) in his Sault Ste. Marie debut cleaned up the rebound off of a Morgan Frost (Philadelphia Flyers) shot to provide the Greyhounds with a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds outshot the Spirit by a 11-9 margin in the opening period.

During the middle frame, Lamour played a prominent role early on as he applied his blocker to a Greyhounds breakaway opportunity. With 4:07 remaining in the frame, Marcus Crawford fired a shot from the point towards net where Cole Coskey stood nearby, tipping the puck into the net for a tie game. Less than three minutes later, though, the Greyhounds reclaimed a one-goal lead when Tim Gettinger (New York Rangers) cleaned up his own rebound opportunity for a 2-1 Sauilt Ste. Marie lead. Michigan native Keeghan Howdeshell recorded an assist on the Gettinger goal. Saginaw outshot Sault Ste. Marie 12-10 in the 2nd period.

During the last stanza, the Spirit had a near scoring chance when Blade Jenkins had Greyhounds goalie Tyler  Johnson one-on-one, but the Saginaw rookie was turned aside. Both teams received minor penalties just six seconds apart, so the two squads played nearly two minutes of four-on-four hockey, though no goal was scored during the special teams duel. Sault Ste. Marie later added an insurance goal with 7:42 expired in the frame when Raddysh tallied his second goal of the night off a dish from Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jordan Sambrook (Detroit Red Wings) from the right corner. The Spirit outshot the Greyhounds 9-4 in the third period.
