Saginaw Spirit Fall to Owen Sound Attack On The Road

Saginaw Spirit Fall to Owen Sound Attack On The Road

On Saturday night the Saginaw Spirit prepared to play the Owen Sound Attack on the road at The Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. The last time the two teams met in Owen Sound was in September. Both teams headed into the game on crucial win streaks.

The ice seemed tilted toward the Owen Sound zone as Saginaw set the pace early in the first period. But it was the Attack who got on the board first when Daniel Catenacci pulled away from Spirit defense and scored a shorthanded unassisted goal. Saginaw later retaliated with the tying goal off the stick of Assistant Captain Eric Locke, when he fought to find position in front of the net and finished a rebounded goal. His 39th goal this season was assisted by his line mates Jimmy Lodge and Garret Ross. Attack winger Holden Cook drew a penalty with less than five minutes later and utilized to most exciting play in hockey to score on a penalty shot. The second period closed with the Attack in the lead 2-1.

The second period continued with fast paced play and hard work from both sides. The only goal of the period though would come from the Saginaw squad. Eric Locke showed off a flawless display of his powerful skills when he recorded his second goal of the night with an assist from Jason Shaw. Spirit starting goaltender Nikita Serebryakov had a stellar shutout period which held the score tied at 2.

In the final twenty minutes of play the Attack scored to open the period and to close the game. Scoring his fourth power play goal in an Attack uniform, Ottawa Senators prospect Cody Ceci regained the lead for Owen Sound with assists from Daniel Catenacci and Chris Bigras. Daniel Catenacci followed his assist with another goal of his own to increase the lead to 4-2 with assists from Kurtis Gabriel and Cameron Brace. Kurtis Gabriel then went to the net off a give and go from his teammates Daniel Catenacci and Nathan Chiarlitti and contributed to the Attack lead. To close the scoring with an empty net goal, Daniel Catenacci recorded his hat trick third goal of the game with assists off the sticks of Holden Cook and Jaden Lindo. The Owen Sound Attack took the victory over the Saginaw Spirit 6-2.
