Spirit’s NHL Drafted Skaters Prepare for Prospect Tournaments

09/02/13              Spirit’s NHL Drafted Skaters Prepare for Prospect Tournaments

After getting reacquainted with their junior teammates at last week’s 2013 Training Camp, six members of the Saginaw Spirit are now looking to showcase their skills in an NHL environment in the coming days.  The Detroit Red Wings will welcome the team’s stable of prospects, along with skaters from seven other NHL teams beginning on September 5th as the annual Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament is set to go. Along with players from the Red Wings, the event will feature talent from the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Rangers.

With that, Spirit players Justin Kea (Buffalo), Eric Locke (Buffalo), Nick Moutrey (Columbus), Cody Payne (Dallas), and Jake Paterson (Detroit) will represent Saginaw at the event, which was a casualty of the NHL lockout a year ago. The tournament will run from September 5th to the 9th.

Meantime, Spirit forward Jimmy Lodge will be heading to Western Canada where his NHL drafted team, the Winnipeg Jets will take part in the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic. This round robin event will also go from September 5th to the 9th, and with the Jets, and Canucks, the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and San Jose Sharks will be the other teams making the trek to Penticton, B.C.
