Spirit Announce Completion of Trade with North Bay Battalion
12/27/13 Spirit Announce Completion of Trade with North Bay Battalion
The Saginaw Spirit will open the post-Holiday portion of the OHL schedule with a new face in the lineup after a deal with the North Bay Battalion. The Spirit have sent forward Zach Bratina to the Eastern Conference club in exchange for forward Blake Clarke in a transaction involving two NHL draft eligible skaters.
Clarke comes to the Spirit with distinguished credentials in the early portion of his OHL career as he joined Saginaw defenseman Brandon Prophet as a Second Team All-Rookie performer last season, and was the fourth leading point producing freshman in the 2012-2013 campaign. The St. Louis area product was also included in the All-American Prospects Game in Pittsburgh in the fall where he sustained a shoulder injury that has limited him to just 21 games this season. Clarke is also an A rated player in NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch list, and will participate in January’s Top Prospects Game in Calgary, AB. In 89 games played in the OHL, Clarke has recorded 20 goals and added 34 assists.
Bratina leaves the Spirit after joining the team this past January in a deal with the Plymouth Whalers which involved Vincent Trocheck. In 43 games played with the Spirit, Bratina recorded seven goals and added 13 assists.
Following three games to round out the month of December including the Spirit’s historical skate against Windsor at Comerica Park on the 29th, the team will open the New Year with four straight games on home ice. The Niagara IceDogs will provide the opposition on Friday, January 3rd at 7:11, with a post-game skate with the players following the game at the Dow Event Center against Guelph on Sunday, January 5th at 4:00.
