SAGINAW, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit, in conjunction with the Ontario Hockey League, announced Tuesday their schedule for the 2017-18 regular season, the 16th season in the history of the Franchise. The Spirit will play in 68 regular season contests (34 home and 34 on the road) with preseason contests to be announced at a later date.
“I wish to thank Spirit Partner Jim Devellano for his input and counsel on building this season’s game schedule. This is an excellent schedule for Saginaw in many ways.” said Spirit President and Managing Partner Craig Goslin. “We are very excited about this year’s version of the Saginaw Spirit and wish to invite the entire Great Lakes Bay Region to come be part of the action and “Catch the 2017-2018 Spirit!”
The Spirit open the 2017-18 season on Thursday, September 21 on the road battling the defending MasterCard Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
The Dow Event Center doors open for the 2017-18 season on Saturday, September 23 when the Spirit host the London Knights. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
The Spirit welcome the defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires to The Dow for the first time on Saturday, December 16 at 7:05 p.m.

Unlike last season, when the Spirit opened up the campaign against the Flint Firebirds, this season the Spirit and Firebirds will not meet until Wednesday, November 1 at The Dow Event Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. That marks the first of three battles in November and eight over the duration of the 2017-18 season. Five of the eight games this season between the Spirit and the Firebirds will take place on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, allowing for more convenient travel for the fans between Saginaw and Flint.
The Saginaw Spirit are excited to offer seven Sunday home games that will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET during the 2017-18 season. The Sunday dates will replace all but five home weekday dates scattered throughout the schedule.
Craig Goslin continues: “We tried to do our best to make the 2017-2018 Saginaw Spirit schedule as player and fan friendly as possible while at the same time, reducing our three-game in three-night scenario’s down to three. We are presenting to our fans, 18 Saturday night home games, as well as hosting seven Sunday late afternoon/early evening home games at 5:30 p.m. The 5:30 p.m. Sunday start time allows our players ample time to rest and recuperate from the multiple home and away Saturday night games and also allows Spirit fans enough time to watch the 1:00 p.m. Detroit Lions games and having enough time to travel to the Dow Event Center to watch the Spirit.”
