PREVIEW: SPIRIT WRAP UP ROAD SCHEDULE IN THE SOO FRIDAY NIGHT

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit (27-30-7-2, 9th Western Conference) travel up to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to take on the Soo Greyhounds (46-16-3-1, 2nd Western Conference) at the Essar Centre. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m.

The Spirit are coming off of one of their most impressive defensive efforts on Wednesday night in a 2-1 defeat of the Soo Greyhounds. Evan Cormier made 26 saves, while Hayden Hodgson (38) and Filip Hronek (14) scored for the Spirit, giving them their fifth win in their last six games.

The Greyhounds 2-1 loss Wednesday to Saginaw was the first time in nine games Sault Ste. Marie failed to score two goals in a game. The Hounds had won five games in a row previous to Wednesday night’s game in Saginaw.

For Sault Ste. Marie to take over first place in the Western Conference, they would need to win their final two games of the season and hope Erie loses both of their remaining two games.

The Hounds have won five of the first seven games against the Spirit this season. The Spirit shutout the Hounds, 4-0 in their first encounter of the season back on November 11, 2016. The Greyhounds won the next five meetings until Saginaw’s 2-1 win Wednesday.
