SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – On Wednesday night, the Saginaw Spirit (1-3-1-0, 3 points, 5th West Division) take on the Soo Greyhounds (5-1-1-0, 11 points, 2nd West Division) at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m.

The Saginaw Spirit played only once last week, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Barrie Colts at The Dow Event Center.

In the game, the Spirit ended an 0-for-25 drought on the power play when Marcus Crawford scored his 100th OHL point on a goal from the blue line in the first period. The Spirit’s second tally would also come by way of the power play when former Barrie Colt Matthew Kreis wristed home his own rebound in the second period. Cameron Lamour made 29 saves in his season debut, including a save that made the Janes Saves of the Week.

The Soo Greyhounds are winners of four straight games, all away from the Essar Centre. Tonight is only the third home game of the season for the Hounds, who are 1-1-0-0 in the previous games.

The Greyhounds are led by NHL talent Boris Katchouk (Tampa Bay, ’16) and Tim Gettinger (New York Rangers, ’16) who have 11 and 10 points, respectively.

25-game winner last season Matthew Villalta is off to another great start in goal for the Greyhounds with a 4-0-1-0 record and a 1.96 goals against average. The acquisition of overage goalie Connor Hicks from Flint has solidified the Soo with one of the top goaltending tandems in the OHL.

This is the 121st all-time regular season meeting between the Spirit and the Greyhounds with the Spirit posting a 55-52-9-4 record overall, and a 22-31-4-3 record in the Soo.

Last season, the Greyhounds took six of eight meetings with the Spirit, but the two teams have split their last 16 meetings overall (8-8-0-0). Tonight is the Spirit’s first road game since opening night in Windsor on Sept. 21.

Tonight is the second Saginaw Spirit watch party at Buffalo Wild Wings located at 2690 Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw.
