Spirit, Otters battle on 1st annual Nexteer Robotics Night

SAGINAW, MI. – On Sunday night, the Saginaw Spirit (8-9-3-0, 19 points, 4th West Division) host the Erie Otters (9-10-2-0, 20 points, 4th Midwest Division) at The Dow Event Center. This will be the second meeting of the season for the two teams, with Saginaw winning the opening matchup on Nov. 11, 5-2.  The puck drops today at The Dow at 5:30 p.m.

 

On Saturday night, the Saginaw Spirit hosted the Owen Sound Attack. The Spirit set the pace of the game early in the first keeping Attack goaltender, Mack Guzda on his toes. Caleb Everett started of the first period with the goal just minutes into the game. Everett would see two goals last night followed by Marcus Crawford, who racked up two goals as well. His two points last night gave him 114 career points, tying him for 20th all-time with former Spirit teammate Kris Bennett. After a back and forth game, the Spirit took the lead late in the third 4-3 on a Crawford powerplay goal and secured the win with an empty net goal from Cole Coskey.

 

The Erie Otters also saw a victory last night breaking their nine-game road losing streak. The Otters traveled to Flint where the final score was 5-2. Ivan Lodnia secured the first Erie goal in the first period with an assist from goaltender Troy Timpano. Goals from Owen Headrick and Jordan Sambrook would make the score 3-1 at the end of the second. Max Golod scored on an Erie powerplay and Taylor Raddysh finished the game with an empty-netter for the final score of 5-2.

 

Tonight marks the 72nd regular season meeting between the Saginaw Spirit and the Erie Otters. Both teams are looking for another victory after coming off of a win last night. Tonight’s matchup marks the second of four games between the Otters and Spirit. The Spirit enter tonight’s match-up with a 34-24-1-1 and one tie overall record against the Otters. Saginaw has a home record of 17-11-1-0 with one tie and 17-13-0-1 on the road against Erie.

 

The Saginaw Spirit will be hosting the Nexteer Robotics Night. The Spirit have invited 15 area schools and their robotics teams along with their creations for a night at The Dow Event Center. Today is also Covenant Kids Day, with $5 upper-level tickets for kids 12 years old and younger.
