SAGINAW, Mich. – On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit (20-26-6-2, 9th Western Conference) and the Flint Firebirds (26-22-1-4, 8th Western Conference) continue their strife in the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup this season. The Spirit trail the Firebirds by nine points for the final spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.


On Sunday, the Saginaw Spirit completed a three-game road trip taking on Mississauga, where they fell 3-2 to the Steelheads. On Wednesday night, the Spirit were unable to break Villalta’s 15-game winning streak and fell 3-1 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. In Erie Saturday night, the Spirit came back from 3-0 down to tie but lost to the Otters, 9-4.


The Flint Firebirds also completed a three-game weekend where they earned four out of six points. Their weekend concluded on Wednesday in Owen Sound where the Firebirds fell 4-0 to the Attack. Prior to the loss in Owen Sound, the Firebirds earned two victories. On Saturday night the Firebirds took a 5-3 decision over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Sunday they marked a 4-2 win over Guelph Storm.


The Saginaw Spirit last battled the Flint Firebirds on January 10th. The Firebirds were aggressive in their scoring opportunities, beating the Spirit 11-2 at The Dow Event Center. Columbus Blue Jackets signee Kole Sherwood scored a career-high five goals in the game for the Firebirds.
