SAGINAW, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit (1-2-1-0, 3 points, 5th West Division) play host to the Barrie Colts (4-2-0-1, 9 points, 1st Central Division) on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.

The Fall Kickoff Tailgate originally scheduled in the Huntington Event Park will now be located inside the Dow Event Center in the Budweiser Red Room due to the forecast of inclement weather. Saginaw Spirit fans are invited to attend free of charge beginning at 5:00 p.m. to enjoy $2 craft beer samples, $1 Buffalo Wild Wings samples and a live DJ.  Plus the MSU versus University of Michigan football game will be shown on a large projection screen.

Today’s game is Saginaw’s first game in seven days following a game in which the Spirit fell to the Guelph Storm, 6-3. Saginaw right winger Cole Coskey travelled end-to-end before slipping the puck past Storm goalie Anthony Popovich, knotting the score at one apiece in the first period. Saginaw outshot Guelph by a 12-11 margin in the first period. Nicholas Porco would score his 1st OHL goal in the second period, with Aidan Prueter picking up his 1st OHL point on the assist.  Ben Badalamenti picked up his 2nd OHL goal via a speedy one-timer with four minutes left in the third. Guelph converted on four out of five power play opportunities to propel them to a 6-3 decision over the Spirit.

The Colts finish up their third game in three nights tonight against the Spirit. Friday, the Colts dropped a 4-1 decision to the Sarnia Sting. The game saw many penalties for both teams. Barrie uncharacteristically had a hard time converting on the man-advantage and went 0-for-8 in the game, and 0-for-18. Late in the third, a play by Ryan Suzuki allowed Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Alexey Lipanov to put the Colts on the board, making the score 3-1. Barrie fell short to the Sting in a 4-1 loss.

Tonight marks the 31st all-time regular season meeting between the Spirit and the Colts with the Spirit posting a 9-17-3-1 mark since their inception in 2002. In those meetings, Barrie has outscored Saginaw by a 117-90 margin.

Last season the Spirit and the Colts split their two-game season series, with the both teams winning in their respective buildings. Saginaw taking a 4-2 decision on Nov. 5, 2016 and Barrie answering with a 5-4 overtime win on Jan. 19, 2017.
