PREVIEW: Spirit face Generals in Sunday OHL action

OSHAWA, Ontario. – On Sunday, the Saginaw Spirit (14-11-3-0, 31 points, 4th West Division) take on the Oshawa Generals (13-16-2-0, 28 points, 5th East Division) at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. The puck drops at 6:05 p.m.

The Spirit found themselves in tough Saturday afternoon against the Hamilton Bulldogs at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton. The Bulldogs ran off with a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period, and added another three goals in the second. Aidan Prueter scored his 3rd goal of the season for the Spirit to make it a 6-1 affair. The Bulldogs would add another in the third period to take the game, 7-1.

Despite the loss, the Spirit are 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 games and are still in a Western Conference playoff spot.

The Generals are coming off of a tough showing Saturday in the CHL Saturday Showcase broadcast Nationally on Sportsnet. The Barrie Colts, behind two goals from Alexey Lipanov and Jason Wilms, knocked off the Oshawa Generals 5-0. 2018 top NHL Draft prospect Andrei Svechnikov posted two assists in his return from an injury. Goaltender Cole Ceci was pulled in the first period in favor of Boston Bruins free agent signee Kyle Keyser. Keyser made 23 saves the rest of the way, but Oshawa’s offense was silenced on this day. The Generals mustered only 17 shots on goal in the game.

The Generals are led offensively by Boston Bruins second round pick Jack Studnicka, who has 29 points in 31 games. 2017 first round pick Mitchell Brewer is leading the team in +/- from the backend with a +14 through 26 games.
