Detroit Red Wings Ink Spirit’s Paterson to NHL Contract

09/28/13              Detroit Red Wings Ink Spirit’s Paterson to NHL Contract

He is regarded as one of the elite goaltenders in the Canadian Hockey League, and now Saginaw’s Jake Paterson has an NHL contract in his back pocket. In an announcement made earlier today, the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings signed the Mississauga, ON native to a three year, entry level package after making him their 3rd round pick, 80th overall in the 2012 draft. Paterson was originally a 2nd round choice of Saginaw’s, taken 32nd overall in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection.

Thus far in his OHL career, Paterson has recorded 47 wins including a career high 25 last season. In the 2013-14 campaign, Paterson currently leads all OHL goaltenders in saves, with a save percentage of .917 in 4 games played.

Paterson will also be vying for a second consecutive appearance for Team Canada at the 2014 World Jr. Hockey Championship over the Holiday Season, after attending his home country’s National Junior Team Development Camp in Brossard, Quebec this past summer.
